One of the most common themes that individuals report experiencing in their dreams states is that of flying. Flying dreams are particularly dramatic and interesting because they represent such an obvious break from the waking world. Those people who have these sorts of dreams often seek to understand flying dreams meaning, trying to figure out what these sorts of dreams have to say about the dreamer, his or her life, and his or her psychological state.
If you are looking for flying dreams meaning, you are not alone. People all over the world have been trying to figure out flying in dreams meaning for centuries! According to the Native Americans, the Hindus, the Tibetan Buddhists, and many other ancient traditions, all individuals have a light body which is capable of leaving the physical body during sleep. This light body is capable of traveling great distances and in to other dimensions, now commonly referred to as astral planes. There it is possible to communicate with one’s ancestors and with other powerful spirits. So, according to these cultures, one flying in dreams meaning is that your light body is making the first step towards astral travel by ascending to the heavens during the dream state.
Flying dreams are usually pleasant, and are often accompanied by feelings of freedom and excitement. One of the interesting aspects of flying dreams is that the dreamer usually feels that flying is completely natural, and that he or she has always known how to fly. This is usually my experience of flying dreams. The dream meanings of flying dreams such as these may be that you are opening up to freedom and a sense of comfort with yourself and with the divine. Some individuals also experience a fear of heights or of falling during flying dreams. When it comes to flying dreams meaning, I have often felt that these dreams symbolize liberation from something in my life that has been holding me back. It is as if the bonds of my troubles are gone, and I am capable of experiencing freedom so powerful that I can actually fly! I also usually have a sense of expansion of the spiritual self and of a connection with divinity.
On the other hand, dreams of flying meaning may not always be so positive. Some flying in dreams interpretation suggests that certain flying dreams may indicate a surplus of ambition, taking into consideration the Greek myth of Icarus, in which Icarus makes wings and is able to fly but goes too close to the sun in his prideful state and melts his wings, falling to his death. Another cautionary dream of flying meaning could be that you’re becoming detached from your everyday life, responsibilities, or personal connections: going through life with your “head in the clouds”.
In order to come to understand the flying dream meanings of a specific dream experience, I find that it helps to consider both my present waking life circumstances and the emotions that I experience during the flying dream itself. Consider the things that have been problematic in your life recently. Many times, my flying dreams come about when I am just starting to break free of something I thought was very serious. After having a flying dream, I am able to recognize that these problems are not as difficult as I thought they were, and I am able to gain some release from them. If I feel some anxiety during the dream state, but it manifests as excitement, this often indicates that it is safe for me to take more risks in life, even if doing so makes me a little bit nervous. If my dream has a strong element of fear or alarm, the meaning of flying in dreams here may be that I need to ground myself more fully in my life before taking risks, or that I am over-reaching my own personal means.
I hope that this short article can help you to understand the dream meaning flying dreams may signify. Flying dreams are extremely powerful, so much so that many individuals who begin working with lucid dreaming set flying as a goal for their lucid dreaming experience. Making the conscious decision to fly in a dream, and flying for extended periods of time can be very difficult to do lucidly, because flight is such a great departure from waking reality. However, if you are able to experience flight in a lucid dream, you will know that your dream work has been very successful indeed! Flying dreams are a mysteriously consistent aspect of the human dream experience, and there is a great deal that we can learn from them about our physical and spiritual realities! I encourage you to explore them in depth whenever they arise. You may be surprised at what you discover when you consider a dream flying meaning!
I’ve had dreams about flying before. Like a year ago, I had a dream that I found out that I was in a dream. And there was a red barn right by me. So I tried to take advantage of lucid dreaming. And climbed the barn and jumped off attempting to fly. I would hit the ground. Over and over. It frustrated me that I couldn’t experience flying. Then, just last night, I was floating/flying in the sky. I was surrounded by beautiful clouds. I was a bit scared that I might fall. But then, I was comfortable and felt calm just being there. It felt so real. I even took out my phone and took pictures of my feet hanging above the clouds. There was three others flying with me. But they were strangers. I couldn’t get over how happy and relaxed I was being up there. All I saw was clouds. And I can’t wait for another dream like that.
Hi there, I have been flying dreams for a while. Again, not like superman flying but more controlled floating. They have alway been pleasant. The dream feels so real that when I wake I believe that I will be able to fly in reality.
I just woke up from a “flying dream”, and trying to hv a clue to what that means lead me to this page. First, I found myself in an open field filled with people and my mind told me…some are living and others dead people but you have nothing to worry about. After that I started the flight, among very tall whistling pines and could even rest on the tree’s branches and without fear rather total acceptance of whatever I felt.
I have always had flying dreams, for as long as I can remember. However, they have become very prevalent in the last year or so, and even more so in the last three months. In my dreams it is seldom ever in the same place as before, but it’s always the same. I’m not flying around like ‘superman’, rather I’m ‘floating’. I am able to take off and land at will, and I can manipulate where I’m going ( i.e. up, down, forwards or backwards ) by bending at the waist slightly. In my flying dreams, I’m not really aware that I’m ‘in a dream’, but I am aware that I know exactly how to fly. It’s never been a bad experience, only positive, but each dream seems to be in a different place or time, with different surroundings, sometimes people are present and sometimes not. I have just begun today to search for the meanings of dreams, this one in particular. The one thing that sticks out to me about these flying dreams is that EVERY time I awake after having one, I always feel like I can, or should be able to fly in real life. Who knows, maybe someday I will 🙂
Keep it up Jason! And let us know when you master waking flight 😉
I’ve actually been a Dream Flight virgin up until last night. I just experienced my first. I actually started out with a kind of jetpack thing but then I got so good that I could just do without. Makes no sense whatsoever, but I think I flexed my buttcheeks to go higher. Haha. Sometimes I wouldn’t quite make it over the roofs of buildings, but I’d just land on them and boost higher and glide. I remember I flew past this couple on a farm on the outskirts of the city and the dude was like, “Look! It’s an angel.” I felt pretty rad.
Congratulations, Jono! 🙂 Enjoy your newfound ability of flight!
Thank You for the knowledge. I used have lot of flying dreams in my childhood days. Now also I have, but not frequently. Sometimes I my self ask question to myself if this is a dream or a reality. I get an inner sound saying Its a reality. Its then I try to twist and turn my body while I am flying. Its a very beautiful experience. One day it happened so that when I woke up, I head was spinning round and round and I vomited continuously for few days. Later I decided not to do any twist and turn but just enjoy the flight.
Dear Tuhin,
Wow, what a strange experience! I won’t try twisting around in my flying dreams from now on! Hahaha. Flying alone is definitely exciting enough!
Happy dreams!
Hello,
I recently woke up again from another flying dream which seems to have been happening ever so frequently during the past months. These dreams were most prevalent when I was younger but it is a surprise to have them when I am much older now.
In last night’s dream, I was flying almost throughout the dream, it was very rare that my feet ever touched the ground. I had nothing holding me back and no problem taking off. But one detail is I was at a forest at the edge of a vast sea. It felt like a beach to which I frequently went swimming with my friends and we would chill out in the river bank which is closer to a forest. I would even fly through tree branches without any obstructions. They somehow made way or I flew between the openings. This is one of my many detailed flying dreams these months. I wonder what it means.
Thank you for sharing! Sounds like a very beautiful, inspiring dream! Of course, the meaning is up to you to discern, but it’s definitely a good sign if you are able to fly in your dream without fear or difficulty!
